Women’s health physician brings expertise in OB-GYN, obesity medicine, and nutrition to Function’s work across advanced lab testing, imaging, and Medical Intelligence.
NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Function today announced that Jen Ashton, M.D., M.S. is joining its Medical & Scientific Board, advancing the company’s work to help women better understand and act on their health.

Dr. Ashton is a double board-certified physician in OB-GYN and Obesity Medicine with a master’s degree in Nutrition, former ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent, and founder of women’s health platform Ajenda.
Women have too often been asked to navigate their health one symptom, specialist, or life stage at a time. Function pioneered a new approach, built to give women a deeper understanding of their health over time, through one accessible membership. Members receive access to 160+ lab tests annually, including extensive hormone testing alongside markers for heart health, thyroid function, autoimmunity, heavy metals, and more, as well as access to advanced imaging (available at an additional cost).
Function brings those results together to help members establish their baseline and understand what to do next, with clinician-reviewed summaries and an Action Plan tailored to a woman’s stage in life. The goal is simple: Put more knowledge and control in women’s hands, so they can advocate for themselves and take ownership of their health.
“At Function, we set a new standard for women from day one. And we will continue raising it,” said Mark Hyman, M.D., Function Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer. “We’re bringing together lab testing, imaging, and AI to change how every woman manages her health. The intelligence we build today will shape how we understand health for generations. Women must be central to that work. Dr. Ashton will help us take it further.”
“A woman’s hormones, heart, metabolism, and immune system do not operate in isolation. The way we understand women’s health should reflect that,” said Dr. Ashton. “It’s time to connect the dots: Women deserve to know what their results mean, how they relate to what they’re experiencing, and what they can do to feel their best. Those are the questions that should drive this work. I’m excited to help Function answer them.”
Through its Medical Intelligence Lab™, Function is developing AI with attention to women’s biology and how health metrics change throughout their lives. This work addresses a consequential challenge: If there are blind spots in women’s health data, AI will inherit those blind spots. Function wants to help close this gap. Dr. Ashton will help guide these efforts and advise on women’s health across Function’s offerings.
Dr. Ashton joins Function’s Medical & Scientific Board, a group of leading clinicians and experts helping guide the company’s work as it brings a new model of health to millions. Her appointment reinforces Function’s commitment to a future in which women can understand their biology, see how it changes over time, and take action earlier.
