MCPHERSON, KS – October 05, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Athletes rarely rely on a single provider. A 2023 survey of Canadian national team athletes, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, found that more than nine in ten had seen multiple practitioners, among them physicians, physiotherapists, athletic therapists, massage therapists and chiropractors. For a sports chiropractor at McPherson Chiropractic Center in McPherson, Kansas, that finding describes the setting the work happens in. Care is one part of a larger picture, and the athlete at the center of it usually wants one thing, which is to keep moving.

The injuries themselves follow familiar patterns. A scoping review of adult athletes across Olympic sports found that muscle and tendon strains and ligament sprains were the most common musculoskeletal diagnoses in most of the sports examined, although its authors noted that data collection on these injuries is inconsistent. The Canadian survey pointed to the ankle, low back, shoulder and knee as the sites reported most often. A pattern across a group says little about any single athlete, and that gap is where individual assessment comes in. Overuse injuries, the kind that build gradually from repetitive motion, sit in the same territory as sudden ones.

Causes remain a matter of active study. Research on overhead athletes published in 2025 linked shoulder dysfunction with imbalance in the rotator cuff muscles, and a 2026 systematic review of knee injuries described neuromuscular training as one of the more effective ways to lower injury risk. Neither study concerns chiropractic care. They do point toward the same factors, muscular balance and movement control, that the sports injury education pages at McPherson Chiropractic Center say deserve attention alongside pain.

The practice describes an approach that looks at causes as well as symptoms. Its materials list spinal adjustments, physiotherapy applications, soft tissue mobilization, stretching and exercise programs, nutritional counseling and biomechanical training, and the clinic also offers decompression therapy, shockwave therapy and cold laser therapy. A list of services is not evidence of how well any of them works for a particular injury. The research on chiropractic care in sports remains modest, with reviews of controlled trials finding few rigorous studies and a qualitative study of athletes noting that little is known about how they experience care from chiropractors who work with athletes. None of that is a reason to dismiss the field, only a reason to describe it carefully.

That caution is worth keeping in view for an athlete deciding where to go. Sports injuries differ by age, sport and level of competition, and the practice’s education pages treat injury prevention, aging athletes, children and teens, and competitive athletes as separate conversations. Suspected fractures and head injuries belong in a medical setting first. For the many sprains, strains and overuse complaints that fall short of that, a sports chiropractor is one of several options an athlete may weigh, alongside the other providers already on the list. The practice frames that choice around the athlete’s goals, whether that means returning to a weekend league, a school team or a competitive season.
